I remember stumbling across this video a few years ago and thinking how great it had been put together. I have posted it here to share with anyone else that would be interested.
Since this video was made Electric Vehicles have come on leaps and bounds and it is great to see them starting to become a more frequent sight around towns and cities. On a recent trip to central London in Feb 2022, it really struck me how many electric vehicles there were, such as taxis, courier vans and personal vehicles.
It was a great sight (and lack of sound) to see the London buses silently gliding past without spitting out a face full of fumes at you. This particular area in London was in the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) so there was a financial incentive for daily operators to swap to EVs, however it was nice not to be choked while walking about so hopefully everyone is getting the message about the benefits of switching to EVs.
The youtube video in this post, as well as looking very cool was / is trying to convey the message about the technology being driven by Formula E, which is then passed down to automobile makers to put in domestic and commercial vehicles, which is a fair point to make and there has been a fair increase in offerings from top end automobile manufacturers from the likes of Aston Martin, Mclaren, and Porsche to name a few off hand.
There has also been a handful of niche vehicle manufacturers that have really taken it to the next level such as Rimac and not to mention the ever famous Tesla who have all built electric vehicles from the ground up and really shown the other automobile players what could be done.
Altertek were fortunate enough to have helped some budding engineers in the last couple of years in the Formula Student competition where we developed a Lithium Ion battery for the University of Surrey team who did extremely well running the Altertek Formula Student Battery.
In summary, it is happening slow as could be expected with any massive change but the switch to EVs is getting there!
